Robert Grigsby Wilson’s editing work includes award winners, festival favorites, acclaimed television shows, and viral videos.
This June will see the release of three diverse projects that come from years of work. His latest feature film project Fancy Dance, written and directed by Erica Tremblay and starring Lily Gladstone, is coming to theaters June 21st and Apple TV+ after an auspicious festival run including Sundance, SXSW, BFI, Sun Valley, and Outfest. On the same day, Netflix will release the hard-boiled action-thriller Trigger Warning, also edited by Rob, starring Jessica Alba and directed by Mouly Surya. Lastly, from the director of Cheer and Last Chance U comes the documentary series America’s Sweethearts, which Rob was on the editing team for and will be released on Netflix June 20th.
Prior to that, he was the additional editor on Fair Play, which was acquired by Netflix out of Sundance in 2023 for $22 Million Dollars. In 2020, the Sundance award-winning comedy The Forty-Year-Old Version was released on Netflix after being recognized by the 2021 DGA Awards, Indie Spirit Awards, Gotham Awards, Critics Choice Awards, numerous critics associations and the BAFTAs. Miss Juneteenth, on which Rob was an additional editor, was also equally recognized and released by Vertical Entertainment that year.
During the pandemic, Rob edited the documentary Alone Together, featuring Charli XCX and directed by Bradley&Pablo. It premiered as the Closing Night Film at the 2021 South By Southwest Film Festival and was released by Greenwich Entertainment. In 2020, the short film Little Chief also premiered at Sundance which was also written and directed by Tremblay and starred Gladstone as well.
Other notable works includes Goldie (Berlin, Tribeca 2019 - FilmMovement), Lost Bayou (Tribeca 2019), Lost Transmissions (Tribeca 2019 - Gravitas Ventures), Fits And Starts (SXSW 2017 - The Orchard) and Most Beautiful Island (SXSW 2017 Grand Jury Prize Winner - Samuel Goldwyn Films).
Rob has also been part of the editing teams of The Lighthouse (Cannes 2019 - A24), Mr. Robot (USA Networks), Captain Fantastic (Sundance 2016), Halt And Catch Fire (AMC Networks), and Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (Sundance 2013, Cannes 2013), as well as at the 2017 Sundance Directors Labs.
He has also edited music videos for Twenty One Pilots, Yeasayer, and Iron & Wine, the documentary web series Everything Is A Remix, and Miranda July’s short film A Handy Guide For The Easily Distracted.
His work has been nominated for an MTV Video Music Award and featured on Vimeo Staff Picks, Buzzfeed, Boing Boing, and Short Of The Week. Rob has also had the privilege to assist for many established editors and is incredibly thankful for their mentorship.
He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Lauren, son Ezra, and editorial therapy dog Cashew.
